SM Tuning

Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 2 tuned on the rolling road.

This 911 had not long had an engine rebuild and the customer wanted to see how it was doing. The initial power ran a little lower than we expected although the vehicle still checked out OK. We still managed to gain some power though!

Initial figures were 312BHP / 377NM.
We managed to achieve +26BHP / +23NM.

Final figures: 338BHP / 400NM.

Whilst peak numbers are low, the gains between stock vs tuned are exactly what we were looking for.

Porsche Cayenne 4.5 V8 tuned in Reading, Berkshire.

We would firstly like to apologise for the hiatus in our social media presence. We have had lots going on away from work which has meant that social media took a bit a back seat. We have still been working very hard in the background and still trying to keep on top of messages.

On to this Porsche. Although this was an NA vehicle, due to the sheer size of the engine we could extract some extra power from it. Our stage 1 tuning on this saw +30BHP / +30LBFT.

We will try and keep as active as possible on social media going forward but rest assured. We are still here and still working hard. πŸ™‚

Vauxhall Astra VXR tuned on the rolling road.

This setup had some small issues making it fairly laggy. However, it still made some good numbers! The owner is going to do a few tweaks then bring it back. This should see a much improved power band and an increase in BHP / Torque.

Hi Guys. As some of you may be aware this vehicle suffered engine failure in the last few days and the owner is trying to pin it on us for the tuning. Usually we don't rise to this as we know 99% of the time mapping isn't the fault. This situation is different as the owner was in the dyno cell the whole time the vehicle was being tuned. The owner also had an AFR gauge in the vehicle right Infront of his eyes to ensure that if the fueling had have changed to a point it was unsafe, then it should have been driven slowly. The owner has been coming to us for many years, so much so that I even treated him to lunch on the day whilst I was tuning. So, this has hit on a bit of a personal level too. The damage specifically is shown quite clearly in this photo. A valve has dropped (most likely due to over revving) and this has wiped the engine out with it. This could have happened because the engine being bounced off the limiter. The valves become immensely hot and very fast too. This can cause them to become brittle and snap. There is also the fact of worn / tired collet, valve seating issues, the list can be endless. The owner is claiming of det marks on the pistons, however due to the damage of the engine being so severe there is no way to know if the engine detted or that is collateral damage. Either way, if the damage had been caused by tuning then it would have most likely be just as bad on all 4 cylinders, not just the one. We try and be as honest and transparent as possible, hence we have left this post up and not removed it. If the engine damage was caused by us, we would hold our hands up and pay all costs to replace it and get the car back on the road. We have sent the photos of the damage across to 3 other tuners and 3 other engine builders. All of which agree that the damage is not mapping related and is caused by a mechanical failure. The rest is collateral damage. As we have been off over the Christmas and New Year period, we have just returned so we do not have access to the rolling road. However, the fueling plot is stored on there as is every other one. When we were tuning the car, the last thing we had to do was to fix the fueling as it was a little bit lean. The owner was in the dyno cell along with a very well-known engine builder. Both of whom watched us tune the vehicle to the state of which it left safely. We will get this fueling graph and post it on here to confirm that the vehicle left us in a safe condition with no cause for concern. As said above, the owner also had an air to fuel ratio gauge which was working perfectly fine on the day as we cross referenced that against the dyno readings to ensure accuracy. Thanks, Sean.

BMW 435i 2015 tuned on the rolling road.

These BMW 435i's are quite rare and a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing. This one came to us running 288BHP / 272LBFT.

We tuned this and managed to achieve 363BHP / 376LBFT.

Gains of a whopping 75BHP / and 104LBFT! Safe to say this thing certainly moves!

What hardware did it have or was it standard hardware

Vauxhall Astra J VXR tuned on the rolling road.

This Astra J VXR had all the hardware for stage 3 however the intercooler wasn't up to the job. Intake temps shot up as soon as the car was loaded on boost. This killed the BHP at the top end of the run. Still gained a lot of midrange torque though and transformed this car!

is that on standard turbo and factory intercooler ,decent bhp

Surely it can not have a standard intercooler if he was wanting stage 3 software? Am I wrong in thinking stage 3 modifications should be intake, full turbo back exhaust system and fmic at a minimum?

Audi S3 2.0 TFSi tuned on the rolling road.

We would firstly like to apologise for the lack of recent posts on our social media. We have been working hard in the background and just been so busy we haven't had chance to post anything!

This Audi S3 had a 6 speed manual gearbox and during tuning the clutch started to slip. This ended up meaning the power had to be capped at where it is now. The owner is replacing the clutch and hoping to come back in the new year for some more power.

Figures (for now): 331BHP / 340LBFT.

Volkswagen Crafter 2.5 TDi tuned in Silsoe, Bedfordshire.

As this van was only 109BHP this struggled to even drive on the motorway without labouring the engine. This also had a 70MPH speed limiter, so the customer needed some help from us.

We removed the speed limiter and tuned this to 165BHP / 390NM. Gains of +56BHP / 110NM. Safe to say this van pulls much better πŸ™‚

We travelled 250 miles out to this customer in Scarborough to bring our tuning service to his address.

During the health check we noticed the actuator was weak. We had one on board so quickly swapped that over. After this we got on with tuning this vehicle.

Now running 239BHP.

We travelled 220 miles out to this customer in Lancashire. The owner of this vehicle had been told it couldn't be tuned as the ECU was locked and asked us to help.

We did a health check on this vehicle and found a faulty one way valve, wrong spark plugs fitted and a pattern part coil pack.

We changed the plugs and one way valve and left the coil pack as it was still working fine. We then tuned this.

Now running 290BHP.
